New Orchid Species Discovered in Peruvian Amazon: A Tiny Treasure in a Biodiverse Ecosystem

A new species of epiphytic orchid, *Specklinia bretannensis*, has been discovered in the Peruvian Amazon, specifically in the community of Bretaña, Loreto region.

This tiny orchid, about the size of a pen tip, was found in a flooded forest, highlighting the rich biodiversity of the area.

The discovery underscores the importance of ongoing research to document and protect the hidden flora of the Amazon, home to approximately 3,000 orchid species, many of which are endangered.

Peru holds about 10% of the world's flora, making this discovery significant to global conservation efforts.

The find was presented at the III Peruvian Congress of Orchidology and is currently under review by national and international institutions.
