Warby Parker and Google have announced a partnership to develop AI-powered smart glasses, with the first models expected to launch after 2025. The collaboration was revealed at Google I/O 2025, with Google committing up to $150 million to the project. This includes $75 million for product development and commercialization, and a potential $75 million equity investment in Warby Parker.
The smart glasses will integrate Google's Android XR platform and Gemini AI, offering features like live translation and voice-activated photo capture. The eyewear will come in both prescription and non-prescription options. Google's previous attempt at smart glasses, Google Glass, faced challenges due to privacy concerns and design issues.
This new partnership aims to combine Google's AI technology with Warby Parker's expertise in eyewear design to create a more appealing and functional product. The collaboration also includes Gentle Monster and Kering Eyewear, with the goal of creating stylish glasses that users will want to wear all day. Prototypes are currently being tested with trusted testers to gather feedback and ensure user privacy.
