Amazon Reportedly Bids for TikTok Ahead of Deadline Amidst Uncertainty

Edited by: Olga Sukhina

Amazon has reportedly made a last-minute bid to acquire TikTok from ByteDance, preceding the deadline for the app to be sold to a U.S. company or face a ban. The offer was reportedly detailed in a letter to Vice President JD Vance and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. It remains uncertain whether key parties involved in the potential TikTok sale are taking Amazon's bid seriously. President Trump is expected to discuss a proposal for TikTok's US investors to take majority control of a spun-off version of the company. Trump has until Saturday to find an acceptable buyer for TikTok after issuing an executive order delaying enforcement of a federal law that banned the app unless ByteDance divested.
