Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is under scrutiny after Reuters found discrepancies in its reported savings. DOGE initially claimed $50 million in taxpayer money was allocated for condoms in Gaza, a claim later refuted. Reuters' audit revealed DOGE had modified or removed over 1,000 entries on its list, nearly half of its listed spending arrangements. A $655 million contract was triple-counted, inflating savings by $1.8 billion. DOGE also falsely claimed $8 billion in savings from canceling an $8 million contract. Musk acknowledged errors and stated DOGE would act quickly to correct them. Sen. Ron Johnson said Musk is setting up a process to address mistakes, including providing his personal cellphone number to senators.
