Al Capone's Diamond-Studded Patek Philippe Pocket Watch Heads to Auction

Edited by: alya myart

Al Capone's diamond-studded Patek Philippe platinum pocket watch is set to be auctioned at Sotheby's. The watch, dating back to circa 1919, is a testament to the infamous gangster's flamboyant style.

Capone, known for his luxurious tastes, replaced the original case with a custom platinum one and had 90 single-cut diamonds encrusted on the reverse side, spelling out his initials “AC” in an Art Deco design. The dial features Breguet numerals, though the minute hand is missing.

The Sotheby's 'Important Watches' auction will take place on June 10 in New York City. The watch is expected to fetch between $80,000 and $160,000. Other notable Patek Philippe models will also be showcased, including a Ref. 2499 Perpetual Calendar Chronograph, estimated at $3 million to $5 million.
