In January 2025, the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Department introduced a calendar featuring traditional Indian games for students in Classes 1 to 8 across government schools. This initiative, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aims to reconnect children with their cultural heritage and reduce mobile phone addiction.
The calendar, developed by experts from the State Institute of Education (SIE) in Prayagraj, has been distributed digitally to approximately 1.5 lakh schools, benefiting over 1.5 crore students. The program introduces indigenous games like Posham Pa and Langdi Taang to promote physical activity and reduce screen time.
In December 2024, the state organized sports and cultural contests in PM SHRI schools, with a budget of ₹2.5 crore, to foster students' physical, mental, and social development. Furthermore, in May 2025, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) introduced new Class 7 textbooks celebrating traditional Indian games and crafts, emphasizing experiential learning and cultural heritage.
