Paris to Host International Meeting on Syria

Paris is set to host an international meeting focused on supporting the political transition in Syria. The French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, announced that Paris is preparing to meet Syria's needs in terms of achieving a political transition.

The Paris international meeting aims to support the political transition in Syria, with France committed to ensuring the necessary humanitarian aid through specialized organizations. The European Union is also working towards easing sanctions imposed on Syria. According to Jean-Yves Le Drian, the EU is working with European partners to quickly ease economic sanctions on sectors, starting with essential areas such as energy.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced the organization of a conference to aid Syria, following the fall of the Assad regime in mid-February. The meeting is specifically aimed at coordinating international aid, initially organized in Jordan, to respond to three 'urgent needs' in Syria, including support for a peaceful transition that respects the country's sovereignty and security, in addition to addressing justice issues and strengthening the fight against impunity.

A French official clarified that the Paris meeting aims to assist in creating protective conditions around the Syrian political transition to give them the time to resolve them, while preventing the spread of instability. The Syrian Foreign Minister, Faisal bin Farhan, met with his French counterpart in Paris to discuss relations between the two countries and enhance them in various fields, as well as discussing developments in climate issues and concerted efforts to achieve security and peace in the region.
