Qatar and Iran Discuss Regional Tensions Amid Gaza Crisis

On October 30, 2024, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani held a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The discussion focused on the latest developments in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as ways to de-escalate tensions in the region.

According to a statement from the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two officials reviewed the cooperative relations between their countries and explored opportunities for strengthening these ties.

The conversation came in the context of ongoing violence in Gaza, which has resulted in significant casualties and destruction since October 7, 2023. Reports indicate over 144,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured, with many victims being children and women. Additionally, the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate, with thousands reported missing.

Furthermore, the situation has escalated in Lebanon following clashes involving Hezbollah and other factions, as Israel has expanded its military operations in response to the conflict in Gaza. This includes unprecedented airstrikes across various regions in Lebanon, including the capital, Beirut.
