UAE Launches First Lithium Battery Recycling Plant to Boost EV Sector

KEZAD Group and Witthal Gulf Industries LLC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the UAE's first lithium battery recycling plant, a critical move for the country's sustainability goals.

The facility, set to become operational by Q2 2027, will recycle 5,000 tons of battery waste annually, significantly reducing emissions by 20,000 tons each year.

This initiative supports the UAE's electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem by enhancing renewable energy storage and promoting sustainable manufacturing practices.

Witthal's Advisor, Sugumaran Devaraja, emphasized the company's commitment to building technology and ecosystems around the factory to further support KEZAD's automotive hub ambitions.

This project aligns with the UAE's Net Zero by 2050 goals and Circular Economy Policy, marking a pivotal step in advancing the nation's automotive industry.
