Apple is planning a significant overhaul of its Siri assistant, introducing a new model called LLM Siri, which stands for Large Language Model. This initiative aims to enhance conversational interactions and improve the handling of complex queries.
According to Bloomberg, Apple is expected to reveal details about this redesign during the iOS 19 and macOS 16 updates next year, with the actual launch of LLM Siri slated for spring 2026.
The revamped Siri will leverage user context, allowing it to understand on-screen information and execute a wider range of actions across both Apple and third-party applications.
In the upcoming iOS 18.x version, Apple will utilize a first-generation LLM to decide whether requests should be processed through the existing Siri infrastructure or routed to a second LLM capable of addressing more complex queries.
The new generation LLM anticipated for iOS 19 will feature end-to-end capabilities similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT, marking a significant advancement in Apple's AI strategy.
Additionally, Apple is exploring the integration of ChatGPT and other AI chatbots, such as Google's Gemini, while maintaining a focus on user privacy.
Despite this shift, Bloomberg notes that Apple will continue to allow access to third-party AI systems for specialized functionalities and information.
