On January 29, 2025, the first day of the Lunar New Year, over 35 million people flocked to cinemas across China, setting a new attendance record. The box office generated an impressive 1.805 billion yuan (approximately $251 million) from ticket sales, surpassing previous records.

This year, six domestic films dominated the box office, contributing significantly to the overall revenue. The surge in attendance and earnings exceeded the records set in 2021, when the first day of the Lunar New Year fell on February 10.

During the eight-day Spring Festival holiday from January 28 to February 4, cinemas are projected to achieve a staggering box office total of 8.54 billion yuan (around $1.4 billion). This remarkable performance highlights the growing popularity of domestic films in China and the robust recovery of the film industry post-pandemic.
