Laura Carreira's debut feature, On Falling, is set to compete in the prestigious Ingmar Bergman Competition at this year's Göteborg Film Festival.
The film follows Aurora, a young Portuguese woman struggling to make ends meet in Glasgow, Scotland. As she spends her days working for an anonymous e-commerce giant, Aurora faces exhaustion and a deep yearning for connection. The synopsis highlights her battle against loneliness and alienation in a gig economy that isolates individuals.
Produced by Jack Thomas-O'Brien of Sixteen Films and BRO Cinema, On Falling is backed by BBC Film, BFI, and Screen Scotland, with a planned release in UK cinemas in early 2025.
The Ingmar Bergman Competition, established in 2007 by the legendary filmmaker, features a jury this year that includes Dea Kulumbegashvili, Kaltrina Krasniqi, and Silje Riise Næss, Chair of The Bergman Estate on Fårö Foundation.
