Saudi Arabia's Mukaab: The World's Largest Cube-Shaped Structure Under Construction in New Murabba, November 2024

Saudi Arabia continues its ambitious urban development with the construction of Mukaab, a monumental cube-shaped structure in the New Murabba project. This giant golden cube, which is set to be the largest building in the world, will cover an area of 2 million square meters and stand 400 meters on each side, equivalent to 20 Empire State Buildings.

Currently, over 10 million cubic meters of earth have been excavated, with 900 workers actively engaged on-site. The Mukaab is designed to accommodate 400,000 residents, featuring 9,000 hotel rooms, luxurious housing, offices, a technology and design university, a museum, a theater, and over 80 cultural and entertainment venues.

The entrance to the cube will lead into a twisted tower, around which a futuristic world will revolve. The design incorporates cutting-edge technologies such as holography and virtual reality, aiming to create an immersive experience that blends the virtual with the real.

Despite its grandeur, concerns about the environmental impact of such a colossal structure in the Saudi desert remain. Michael Dyke, CEO of New Murabba, emphasized the project's commitment to sustainability and efficient resource use, though questions linger about the carbon footprint of a building of this scale.
