In a significant push for urban biodiversity, two major planting events took place in France on November 30, 2024. These initiatives aim to enhance local ecosystems and promote environmental awareness among communities.
In Avrillé, Maine-et-Loire, residents participated in the planting of an urban forest that will connect Terra Botanica park to the avenue Pierre-Mendes-France. This project, which began in January 2023, aims to establish a green corridor of nearly 9,900 square meters, featuring over 6,000 trees and shrubs. Mayor Caroline Houssin-Salvetat emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, 'We want to give residents the chance to plant themselves, to touch the living.' The forest will include diverse species, ensuring a habitat for local wildlife and improving air quality.
Meanwhile, in Montrichard, an educational initiative led by teacher Hélène Hamelin saw students participate in planting various shrubs, including maples and hazelnuts.
