Hyderabad, December 4, 2024 – Google LLC has announced plans to establish a Safety Engineering Centre (GSEC) in Hyderabad, marking a significant development in the region's technological landscape.

The GSEC will be the first of its kind in India, the second in the Asia-Pacific region, following Tokyo, and the fifth globally, joining facilities in Dublin, Munich, and Malaga.

This specialized cybersecurity hub will focus on developing security products tailored for the Indian market, addressing challenges such as financial fraud and online safety threats. It aims to provide AI-driven security solutions and foster collaboration among cybersecurity experts and researchers.

The Telangana government confirmed that the decision followed discussions between Google executives and state officials during a US visit in August 2024. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed pride in Google's choice of Hyderabad, underscoring the city's reputation as a leading IT and innovation hub.

Royal Hansen, Google's Chief Information Officer, stated that Hyderabad is well-positioned to become a global center for safety engineering, emphasizing the potential for further partnerships in the future.

The establishment of the GSEC is expected to enhance job opportunities and contribute to the safety of Telangana's digital infrastructure. Additionally, Google is exploring the creation of a Cloud Centre of Excellence and a start-up incubation center in the city.
