Kia has introduced its new Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) concept at the IAA Hannover show, aiming to transform the light commercial vehicle (LCV) market.
The PBVs are electric vehicles tailored for specific business needs, featuring advanced software solutions and remote updates. They offer optimal dimensions and class-leading load capacities.
Prototypes displayed include the PV5, PV5 People Mover, PV5 High Roof, and PV7, with production models expected by summer 2025.
Marc Hedrich, President of Kia Europe, emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to penetrate the light commercial vehicle market, highlighting the benefits of a dedicated platform for diverse customers.
The PBVs are part of Kia's Plan S strategy, which focuses on expanding its electric vehicle lineup. Key features include propulsion, charging, connectivity, and operability.
Charging infrastructure includes Kia Charge with access to over 780,000 charging points across 28 European countries and IONITY with more than 4,100 points in 24 countries. PBVs can charge from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes with ultra-fast charging.
Kia's Plug & Charge simplifies the charging process, while the EV Route Planner directs users to the nearest charging station. The vehicles will feature vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities, allowing them to power devices and tools.
Future developments will enable vehicle-to-grid (V2G) energy exchange, optimizing ownership costs and promoting sustainable electricity usage.
