A 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck central Colombia on Sunday morning, according to authorities. No casualties have been reported as of yet.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located 17 kilometers northeast of the town of Paratebueno. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the seismic event occurred at 13:08 GMT at a depth of 10 kilometers. The USGS also noted that the earthquake was felt widely across central Colombia, including in the capital city of Bogotá.

The Colombian Geological Service reported that several aftershocks, ranging in magnitude from 4 to 4.6, occurred in the same area minutes later. The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management stated on X (formerly Twitter) that it is assessing the situation in several municipalities and urged residents to remain calm and follow safety protocols. Reports indicated that some buildings in Bogotá were evacuated as a precaution.

Images posted on social media showed people in Bogota experiencing the earthquake, with some evacuating buildings for safety. Colombia is situated within the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region known for its frequent seismic and volcanic activity. This region is characterized by a high level of tectonic activity due to the convergence of several tectonic plates.
