On January 31, 2025, Moldova and the European Union reached a final agreement on a comprehensive aid package aimed at addressing the country's energy crisis. The Moldovan Prime Minister, Dorin Recean, emphasized the significance of European solidarity in contrast to Russia's actions, stating that Europe is providing financial assistance to alleviate energy dependency.

The agreement includes a non-repayable financial aid package, with Moldova set to receive a grant of €64 million. Of this amount, €30 million will be allocated for the purchase of gas and electricity across both banks of the Dniester River. Specifically, €20 million will be directed towards gas purchases to support the unrecognized Transnistria region, while €10 million will be used for electricity procurement for the Right Bank of Moldova.

The remaining €34 million will be utilized to bolster Moldova's budget. Earlier, on January 27, the EU had already allocated €30 million to Moldova for gas procurement and transportation to meet the country's winter energy needs.
