Japan Launches 15 MW Floating Wind Project

19 October 2024 - Japan has initiated a 15 MW floating wind turbine project off the coast of Aichi Prefecture, with OWC appointed by Kanadevia Corporation to provide pre-FEED (preliminary front-end engineering design) services.

The demonstration project, supported by the Green Innovation Fund Phase 2, is set to run until March 2031. OWC previously collaborated with Kanadevia during Phase 1, focusing on basic design services.

OWC's current role involves the first design iteration of the semi-submersible floater, with potential for continued support throughout the project's demonstration phases.

This initiative is part of Japan's strategy to lower offshore wind power costs, emphasizing floating wind technology. The consortium, including C-Tech, Kanadevia, Kajima Corporation, Hokutaku, and Mitsui O.S.K., aims to develop commercially viable floating wind energy technologies by fiscal year 2030.

OWC is part of ABL Group ASA, a global leader in energy consultancy, with experience from over 330 offshore wind projects.
