Gamuda Leads Digital Transformation in Construction with AI and Cloud Technology: A New Era for the Industry

The construction industry is experiencing a significant transformation through the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies. Gamuda Bhd, a leading construction and engineering firm in Malaysia, is at the forefront of this change, utilizing AI to enhance efficiency and safety in large-scale projects.

With the construction sector projected to reach a global value of $12.74 trillion by 2023, the adoption of AI technologies is becoming crucial. Gamuda has been a pioneer in this field, having implemented Building Information Modeling (BIM) over a decade ago and recently adopting Autodesk Construction Cloud to streamline project management.

At the Autodesk University 2024 event in San Diego, Gamuda's Chief Digital Officer, John Lim Ji Xiong, highlighted the importance of AI in reducing design risks and improving collaboration among subcontractors. This digital transformation is expected to set new standards in the construction industry.

In a significant boost to Malaysia’s AI infrastructure, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo announced Microsoft's $2.2 billion investment in AI and cloud computing, which will support local companies like Gamuda in their ongoing digital initiatives. This investment is anticipated to enhance Malaysia's attractiveness to global investors and further advance the use of AI in construction.

As Gamuda continues to leverage AI, the company is poised to expand its operations internationally, taking on complex projects across various countries including Australia, Singapore, and the UK.
