Hydrogen Burners: A Leap Towards Industrial Decarbonization

Editado por: Vera Mo

In a significant advancement for sustainable industrial practices, Danieli Centro Combustion has unveiled its new generation of hydrogen burners, known as Hydro Mab. Designed to operate with pure hydrogen or gas mixtures, these burners are positioned to transform energy-intensive sectors such as steel, aluminum, and cement manufacturing.

Located in Italy, with operational facilities across Mexico, the United States, and Germany, Danieli is at the forefront of the metallurgical industry's transition towards decarbonization. These innovations address pressing environmental regulations and the need for reduced CO2 emissions, while also enhancing corporate reputations through sustainable practices.

Alessandro Venanzini, the commercial director of Danieli Centro Combustion, emphasized that the Hydro Mab burners can function at 100% hydrogen, eliminating CO2 emissions during combustion. However, the widespread adoption of hydrogen as a fuel faces challenges, including high production costs and limited infrastructure.

Danieli Centro Combustion has invested heavily in research and development, dedicating approximately 2% of its revenue to innovation aimed at optimizing heating and thermal treatment processes. Their research center in Savona, Italy, is set to enhance testing capabilities with a new hydrogen storage station by the end of 2024.

The company’s commitment to hydrogen technology is not just about compliance; it reflects a broader trend towards electrification and the use of renewable energy sources in industrial processes. Venanzini noted that while hydrogen presents a viable solution for reducing emissions, it must be economically sustainable to foster large-scale adoption.

As industries grapple with the dual pressures of sustainability and profitability, Danieli’s Hydro Mab burners represent a critical step towards achieving a greener future. Their strategic development of hydrogen-compatible technologies positions them to meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly industrial solutions.
