UDC's Seabed Cleaning Campaign Removes 1,500kg of Debris from The Pearl Island

In a significant environmental initiative, the United Development Company (UDC) conducted a 'Seabed Cleaning Campaign' at Porto Arabia on The Pearl Island, gathering 163 divers who collectively removed about 1,500kg of plastic and metal debris from a 150,000 sq m area. This event, which took place during Qatar Sustainability Week, underscores UDC's commitment to marine preservation and sustainability.

Executive Director Abdullatif Ali al-Yafei highlighted the involvement of community members, including students and their families, emphasizing the importance of collective action in environmental stewardship. The campaign aligns with UDC's five-year strategy aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainability.

In addition to the cleanup, over 1,000 residents and visitors participated in various eco-friendly activities such as planting and recycling. All collected waste was properly recycled to prevent landfill deposition.

This initiative is directly linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 14, focusing on the conservation and sustainable use of oceans and marine resources. UDC's proactive approach not only aims to enhance Qatar's marine ecosystem but also supports the nation's broader sustainability objectives.
