IMF, World Bank UN Pledge Aid to Mozambique Development Projects on Monday

Maputo - On Monday, Mozambique secured financial aid commitments from international bodies including the IMF, World Bank, and UN. These funds are earmarked for development initiatives spanning agriculture, infrastructure, health, education, and governance. The assurances were conveyed to Foreign Affairs Minister Maria Manuela Lucas by representatives from the UN, IMF, International Finance Corporation, African Development Bank (AfDB), and World Bank during a meeting in Maputo. Catharine Sozi, the UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Mozambique, affirmed the UN's dedication to supporting Mozambique's sustainable development, prioritizing those impacted by northern conflict, natural disasters, and vulnerable populations. The UN previously allocated $4 million to assist victims of Cyclone Chido in Mozambique. The World Bank currently manages over 40 projects in Mozambique, valued at over $7 billion, focusing on sustainable, inclusive, and resilient growth, as well as strengthening human capital in education, health, and social protection.
