IBM and Telefónica Tech Collaborate on Quantum Security Solutions - Jan 31, 2025

IBM and Telefónica Tech have entered into a collaboration agreement focused on developing quantum-safe security solutions. This partnership aims to address the security challenges posed by future quantum computers that could potentially break current cryptographic systems.

The emergence of quantum computing promises advanced computational capabilities but also raises critical concerns regarding data security. As traditional encryption algorithms may become vulnerable, the need for robust solutions is paramount. Although quantum computers capable of breaking current encryption are not yet available, data may already be at risk as cybercriminals could collect and decrypt it in the future.

IBM has been proactive in this area, creating enterprise software centered on quantum security. The IBM Guardium Quantum Safe, part of the IBM Guardium Data Security Center, provides organizations with visibility and management tools to address vulnerabilities, prioritize remediation efforts, and enhance their security posture. Additionally, IBM Guardium Key Lifecycle Manager offers centralized, secure, and scalable encryption key management.

Complementing these offerings, IBM Quantum Safe Explorer and IBM Quantum Safe Remediator are designed to identify cryptographic vulnerabilities in code, test the performance of quantum security algorithms, and establish quantum security proxies.
