Google Tests AI Fraud Detection in Chrome

Tokyo, January 7, 2025 - Google is reportedly testing a new fraud detection feature in its Chrome browser, leveraging artificial intelligence to combat online scams.

Discovered by researcher Leopeva64, the feature is named 'Client Side Detection Brand and Intent for Scam Detection.' It utilizes large language models (LLMs) to identify fraudulent websites by analyzing brand impersonation and suspicious intent.

This functionality is currently available in the latest version of Chrome Canary, an experimental build of the browser. Users can enable it by navigating to 'chrome://flags' and selecting 'Enabled' for the relevant option.

Additionally, similar AI-driven fraud prevention features are being rolled out in other browsers. Recently, a comparable tool called 'Scareware Blocker' was identified in Microsoft Edge, explicitly stating the use of AI to detect potential tech scams.
