ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India and CSIR-CRRI Collaborate on Steel Slag Road Technology

Diedit oleh: S Света

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has partnered with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI) to advance the use of steel slag in road construction. This collaboration aims to replace natural aggregates with processed steel slag aggregates, promoting sustainable infrastructure development.

AM/NS India has secured a license from CSIR-CRRI to manufacture and market processed steel slag aggregates for road construction. This technology enables the company to process steel slag at its Hazira plant in Gujarat, producing aggregates suitable for road building. The processed steel slag aggregates are designed to meet CSIR-CRRI's technical guidelines and quality control measures, ensuring durability and cost-effectiveness in road construction.

Steel slag, a byproduct of steel manufacturing, offers several advantages over traditional construction materials. Roads constructed with processed steel slag aggregates are more cost-effective and exhibit enhanced durability compared to standard bitumen roads. Additionally, these roads are suitable for various environmental conditions, from coastal regions to rugged terrains, making them a versatile option for infrastructure development.

This initiative aligns with India's commitment to sustainable development and the efficient utilization of industrial by-products. By incorporating steel slag into road construction, AM/NS India and CSIR-CRRI aim to reduce the environmental impact associated with traditional road materials and contribute to the country's infrastructure needs.
