The Peruvian Ministry of Culture has declared the Muyuqhawa Archaeological Complex, located in the district of Alto Pichigua, Espinar province, as a National Cultural Heritage site. This decision, announced through the Viceministerial Resolution N.º 000264-2024-VMPCIC/MC, recognizes the site's significant pre-Hispanic archaeological value, particularly its architecture which includes various spaces for habitation, worship, funerary practices, and defense, linked to the Late Intermediate and Late Horizon periods.
Muyuqhawa, considered the largest pre-Inca urban center, spans approximately 4,000 meters with an area of 12 hectares, surrounded by imposing walls. This declaration highlights the importance of preserving such historical sites that provide insights into the social and cultural development of ancient Peruvian societies.
