UN Summit Calls for Global Pact

On September 22-23, 2024, at the United Nations Summit of the Future, a call was made for states to endorse an action-oriented Pact for the Future aimed at revitalizing multilateralism. The Pact emphasizes the importance of diverse non-state actors, particularly private philanthropic organizations, in shaping international development.

The summit highlighted the need for private philanthropy to be recognized in the post-2030 Agenda, as these organizations play a crucial role in addressing poverty, inequality, and human rights. Philanthropic funding for development totaled USD 42 billion between 2016 and 2019, demonstrating their growing influence in the global development landscape.

Participants committed to redirecting resources towards lower-income countries and grassroots organizations, advocating for a more inclusive global policy framework. Additionally, the summit called for innovative financing approaches to enhance the effectiveness of philanthropic efforts in addressing global challenges, including climate change and social inequalities.
