Argentina Launches Criminal Investigation Against Former Bolivian President Evo Morales for Sexual Abuse and Human Trafficking Allegations

On November 3, 2024, Argentina's Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, confirmed the initiation of a criminal investigation against former Bolivian President Evo Morales. This action follows allegations of sexual abuse and human trafficking involving minors.

Marinkovic, a former minister of the interim Bolivian government and current businessman, stated on social media that the investigation has been escalated to a criminal case. He emphasized that Morales, who resides in Bolivia with impunity, must face justice in Argentina.

Bullrich disclosed that a report was filed 15 days prior, detailing accusations against Morales for the alleged commission of crimes related to human trafficking and sexual abuse. She noted that these allegations are in addition to existing charges in Bolivia regarding abuse of minors.

The Bolivian Public Prosecutor's Office has been investigating Morales since September 26, 2024, after receiving intelligence reports suggesting he committed offenses against a minor with whom he allegedly fathered a child in 2015. The investigation is centered in the southern region of Tarija, where evidence has been gathered, although an arrest warrant has yet to be executed.

In addition to the Tarija case, Morales faces two other accusations in Cochabamba, where he is alleged to have raped two girls between 2014 and 2016. Furthermore, on October 1, the Gender Secretary of the Cochabamba Municipality reported five additional cases of human trafficking and rape involving minors over the past five years.

The investigation in Argentina coincides with ongoing protests by Morales' supporters, who have been blocking roads for 20 days in an effort to halt legal proceedings against him for the aforementioned allegations.
