Berlinale 2025: Tom Tykwer's "The Light" Premieres, Tilda Swinton Honored with Golden Bear, Bong Joon Ho and Robert Pattinson to Present "Mickey 17"

The 75th Berlin International Film Festival, Berlinale 2025, kicks off today, February 13th, and runs until February 23rd, featuring the world premiere of Tom Tykwer's new film, "The Light." The German filmmaker, known for "Run Lola Run" (1998) and the series "Babylon Berlin," returns to the big screen with this drama, starring Lars Eidinger and Nicolette Krebitz, chosen for the opening night. During the opening ceremony, Scottish actress Tilda Swinton will receive the Honorary Golden Bear in recognition of her career. The international jury, presided over by American director Todd Haynes ("Carol," "Dark Waters"), will also be presented. Nineteen films produced in 26 countries will compete, with eight directed or co-directed by women. The public program includes around 250 films screened across various sections. Attendees can anticipate appearances from artists like Korean director Bong Joon Ho, who, alongside actor Robert Pattinson, will present "Mickey 17." Timothée Chalamet is also expected for the German premiere of his Bob Dylan biopic, and Jacob Elordi will attend the world premiere of his new series. Other stars include Jessica Chastain, Benedict Cumberbatch, Toni Collette, Marion Cotillard, Ethan Hawke, and Margaret Qualley. Latin American films include "The Message," co-produced by Argentina and Spain; "O Último Azul," a co-production between Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and the Netherlands; and "Dreams" (Mexico), by Michel Franco.
