Argentinian Film 'El Jockey' Wins Horizontes Latinos Award at San Sebastián Festival on September 29, 2024

The Argentinian film 'El Jockey', featuring Mariana Di Girolamo, has won the Horizontes Latinos Award at the 72nd San Sebastián Film Festival. The award was accepted by actor Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, who passionately defended Argentinian cinema during his speech. He expressed gratitude for the support from INCAA, stating, "If I could be an actor, it’s because my country believes in fantasy and has established structures to realize those dreams, like the film law."

Biscayart also criticized political figures for their destructive plans against national culture, asserting that the love for their craft would prevail over hatred. His remarks were complemented by a video showcasing support for Argentinian cinema, which was highlighted during a solidarity day at the festival.

'El Jockey', directed by Luis Ortega and starring Biscayart and Spanish actress Úrsula Corberó, was praised for its "conviction and freedom," as well as its innovative narrative risks. The film, which explores the surreal aspects of identity and life, follows a legendary jockey whose self-destructive behavior jeopardizes his life and relationship with his girlfriend, Abril.

Ortega dedicated the film’s premiere to actor Daniel Fanego, who passed away recently. 'El Jockey' previously competed for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
