This incident, occurring during the Cold War, has resurfaced in discussions following a recent UFO hearing on November 13, 2024.
Salas, now 26 years post-retirement, described the UFO as a glowing red object hovering above the base's gate, which emitted an intermittent electrical pulse that disabled the missiles without causing any damage. 'They knew exactly how our systems worked. Exactly,' he stated during a podcast episode of Total Disclosure, released on November 24, 2024.
Salas humorously suggested the UFO's occupants had a simple message for humanity: 'WTF!? You have nuclear weapons.' He emphasized that all missiles were restored to operational status within 24 hours, indicating a non-destructive intent.
He revealed that he had been bound by a non-disclosure agreement until 1996 and later learned of similar incidents involving UFOs at Malmstrom AFB. Salas has advocated for greater government transparency regarding UFO encounters, stressing that none of the incidents he studied resulted in significant damage, suggesting a warning about nuclear arms.
