In a significant step for marine conservation, the Governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama Espinosa, recently launched a program aimed at protecting sea turtles nesting on the beaches of Benito Juárez. This initiative includes the delivery of three ATVs and two Defender vehicles, along with necessary work materials and uniforms for the Turtle Protection and Conservation Program.
During the event held at the Hilton Cancún Mar Caribe All Inclusive Resort, Governor Lezama emphasized the importance of safeguarding marine ecosystems, stating, 'Protecting sea turtles is preserving the balance of our ecosystems.' She highlighted the cultural heritage linked to the ocean and the commitment to sustainability.
The initiative reflects a collaborative effort, with support from the private sector and local authorities, to enhance environmental conservation in the region. Lezama noted that seven species of turtles nest on Cancún's beaches, all of which receive protection from dedicated personnel at the Turtle Camp.
This program not only aims to protect marine life but also seeks to educate the community on the value of environmental stewardship.
