The IV National Congress and II Ibergrus will take place on December 6-7 at the El Hito lagoon in Cuenca, Spain, focusing on the conservation of the migratory crane species.

This congress, organized by Global Nature Foundation and Ibergrus, will gather enthusiasts and specialists from Spain and Portugal to share knowledge about the ecology and migratory behaviors of these remarkable birds.

Despite a decrease in migratory numbers this year due to water scarcity, the El Hito lagoon remains a crucial refuge, hosting over 9,000 cranes during the winter season. This area is vital as it accommodates 40% of the cranes wintering in Cuenca and 10% in Castilla-La Mancha.

The event aims to promote biodiversity awareness and highlight the importance of natural spaces as migratory bird habitats. Collaboration with local farmers has been essential, ensuring that agricultural practices can coexist with crane conservation efforts.

Participants will have the opportunity to observe cranes in their natural habitat and engage in scientific and educational activities, reaffirming the need for sustainable practices that benefit both wildlife and the local community.
