French Business Leader Proposes Elon Musk-Inspired Commission to Cut Public Spending

Amir Reza-Tofighi, president of the Confederation of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (CPME) in France, has proposed a commission composed of entrepreneurs to reduce public spending in France, drawing inspiration from Elon Musk's role in the US government.

In an interview with the Journal du Dimanche, Reza-Tofighi advocated for a commission tasked with drastically reducing public spending without compromising service quality. He cited Musk's leadership of the "Department of government efficiency" (DOGE) in the US, which aims to streamline federal budgets, as a model.

While acknowledging the controversy surrounding Musk's actions in the US, Reza-Tofighi emphasized that his proposal would not be a direct copy of the American model. He envisions a "French solution" tailored to the country's specific context.

Reza-Tofighi criticized certain French budgetary decisions, including increased taxes and reduced innovation tax credits, which he believes harm small businesses. He believes an entrepreneur-led commission could provide practical expertise to identify cost savings without sacrificing business competitiveness.
