Russian and Turkish Foreign Ministers to Discuss Ukraine in Moscow

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan in Moscow from May 25-27. The meeting aims to discuss the situation in Ukraine, including the root causes of the conflict. Bilateral issues and the regional and global situation will also be on the agenda. According to Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, the Ukraine issue is essential for discussion. Ankara remains active on the international stage, seeking a comprehensive ceasefire and a just peace. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated Turkey would continue its contacts with Moscow and Kyiv. Earlier discussions in Istanbul between Russian and Ukrainian representatives resulted in agreements on prisoner exchanges. However, Moscow has expressed skepticism towards Western proposals for an immediate ceasefire. Foreign Minister Lavrov accused the West of seeking a military pause for Kyiv to strengthen its defenses.
