Colombia and EU to Begin Partnership Talks, Focus on Key Areas

Colombia and the European Union are set to begin negotiations for an Association and Cooperation Agreement, as announced by the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The agreement aims to strengthen political dialogue and collaboration across various sectors. These include security, energy transition, combating organized crime, human rights, and sustainability.

Colombia also proposed a concrete and measurable bi-regional agenda for the upcoming IV Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the EU, scheduled for November 9-10 in Santa Marta.

The summit will focus on electrical interconnection, technological cooperation, green and digital transition, and Artificial Intelligence.

During meetings with European ambassadors, Members of the European Parliament, and business representatives, the Colombian Foreign Minister reaffirmed the country's commitment to a results-oriented foreign policy, amidst a complex national context.

The ministry highlighted the strengthening of alliances in sustainable investment, humanitarian cooperation, satellite connectivity, and support for the peace process.

The Foreign Minister also addressed the diplomatic mission in Brussels and led a meeting with Colombian ambassadors in Europe, reaffirming the commitment to active diplomacy in addressing national and international challenges.
