Lebanon's Leaders Meet French Foreign Minister Amid Escalating Israeli Attacks

On September 30, 2024, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri held separate meetings with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot in Beirut to discuss the ongoing Israeli aggression against Lebanon. Mikati expressed Lebanon's readiness to deploy its army in the south to fully implement UN Resolution 1701, which aims to establish a security zone to prevent direct confrontations with Israel.

During the meetings, Berri emphasized that Israel is responsible for undermining efforts to halt its attacks, and he praised the unity of the Lebanese people against the aggression. Barrot reaffirmed that diplomatic solutions exist to end the violence, including a ceasefire and respect for international law.

The discussions come as Israel intensifies its military operations, leading to significant casualties in Lebanon. Mikati reiterated the need for an immediate ceasefire and highlighted the importance of international support from the US, France, and the EU to restore stability in the region.

The situation remains critical as diplomatic efforts continue, with the potential for further escalation if hostilities do not cease.
