The UNHCR reports that the ongoing conflict in Sudan has displaced millions. Eujin Byun, a spokesperson for the UNHCR, stated this at a press conference in Geneva.

As of Monday, over 4 million people have fled Sudan. They are seeking refuge as refugees, asylum seekers, or returnees. Of these, 1.5 million people have fled to Egypt, over 1.1 million to South Sudan, including about 800,000 South Sudanese who were refugees in Sudan, and more than 850,000 people decided to flee to Chad.

Chad is facing immense pressure due to the influx. The number of Sudanese refugees has more than tripled since the start of the war. In this poor African country, there were already more than 400,000 Sudanese refugees before the conflict, and now their number exceeds 1.2 million, which «puts unbearable pressure on Chad's ability to respond to humanitarian needs,» the UN added.

A significant funding increase is needed to provide vital aid. Refugees are living in deplorable conditions, according to ACNUR coordinator Dossou Patrice Ahouansou.
