Nigeria Establishes Diplomatic Ties With Saint Lucia, Proposes Cooperation

On June 30, 2025, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu announced the formal establishment of diplomatic relations with Saint Lucia. The announcement was made during a joint session of the Senate and House of Assembly of Saint Lucia at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom, Sandals Grande, Gros Islet, Saint Lucia.

President Tinubu proposed a Joint Commission or Political Consultation Agreement for structured cooperation between Nigeria and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). He also announced scholarship offers for OECS students to promote cultural understanding.

The event was attended by OECS leaders, including those from Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda, St Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, Montserrat, Saint Martin, and Saint Vincent. The focus is on economic cooperation, cultural exchange, and addressing climate change.
