In Kampar Regency, Riau, Indonesia, PTPN IV PalmCo and Japanese technology company Aiken Kakoki are accelerating the construction of a biogas power plant (PTBg). The project focuses on processing palm oil mill effluent (POME) at the Sei Garo palm oil mill.
This project follows a partnership initiated in late 2023, with commissioning expected by the end of this year. The plant will use Expanded Granular Sludge Bed (EGSB) technology, known for efficiently converting POME into biogas.
With a minimum processing capacity of 150 cubic meters per day, the PTBg is projected to be fully operational by the end of 2025. This initiative aligns with PTPN IV PalmCo's commitment to renewable energy development in Indonesia. The collaboration highlights the importance of Indonesian and Japanese cooperation in eco-friendly technology and renewable energy.
