The 17th BRICS Summit took place in Rio de Janeiro on July 6-7, 2025. Leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Indonesia convened to discuss global issues.
A primary focus was the reform of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to enhance inclusivity. The leaders advocated for the inclusion of emerging and developing nations, particularly from Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
The summit also marked the formal inclusion of Indonesia as a full member. Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the UAE were also integrated into BRICS. The leaders expressed opposition to unilateral trade restrictions and condemned unilateral coercive measures.
Concerns were raised over global conflicts, rising military expenditures, and growing geopolitical divisions. The summit underscored the bloc's unified stance on reforming global governance institutions and promoting multilateralism.
