Brazil has officially declared itself free from avian influenza in commercial farms. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) communicated the end of the sanitary void period to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
The sanitary void period began on May 22nd after the complete disinfection of the farm located in Montenegro, Rio Grande do Sul, where the first and only outbreak of avian flu in a commercial unit in Brazil was recorded on May 16th. No new cases have been reported since then, and the country has completed all mandatory sanitary measures.
The Ministry has contacted countries that imposed temporary restrictions on Brazilian exports, aiming to reopen markets. The WOAH still needs to officially confirm Brazil's avian flu-free status.
