Tomorrow, June 20, 2025, the UN Security Council will convene an emergency meeting regarding Russia's ongoing attacks in Ukraine. The meeting was announced by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha on X (Twitter).
Ukraine is seeking a principled assessment of the actions of the Russian Federation, which have led to numerous civilian casualties. "We demand clear signals about the need to increase pressure on the aggressor and strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities, including ways to expand air defense," Sybiha noted.
The head of Ukrainian diplomacy also recalled that Ukraine has been observing a ceasefire regime for over 100 days, as proposed by the United States. However, according to him, Russia ignores this initiative and continues to terrorize the country's entire territory. "Only pressure can force Russia to choose peace instead of war," he said.
Earlier, on June 17, 2025, Russia launched a missile strike on Kyiv. As a result of the impact of a ballistic missile on a multi-story residential building in the Solomensky district, 23 people died, and dozens were injured. The missile completely destroyed part of the floors.
In response to this tragedy in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, June 18 was declared a day of mourning. The UN Security Council meeting is expected to discuss further steps to ensure security and support Ukraine in the face of ongoing aggression from Russia.
