Manila - The Philippines and the European Union officially launched a security and defense dialogue on June 2, 2025. This initiative aims to address emerging threats such as cyber attacks and foreign interference. The announcement was made during EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas's visit to Manila, following a meeting with Philippine Foreign Minister Enrique Manalo.

The dialogue seeks to deepen cooperation and facilitate the exchange of expertise on security and defense matters. Joint initiatives will focus on maritime security, cyber security, countering foreign information manipulation, and crisis response. This collaboration falls under the EU-Philippines Partnership and Cooperation Agreement established in 2012.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to a rules-based international order and promoting regional stability, particularly in the South China Sea. The EU aims to work closely with the Philippines, especially as the country chairs ASEAN in 2026.
