Accra, Ghana, August 18, 2025 – The Trans-African Tourism & Unity Campaign officially commenced today, marking the start of a 163-day expedition covering 40,000 kilometers across 39 African nations. Spearheaded by former Ghanaian Member of Parliament Ras Mubarak, the campaign aims to foster continental unity and accelerate the African Union's goal of a visa-free Africa by 2030, aligning with Agenda 2063. The initiative, which has the endorsement of the Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, launched from Accra due to its historical significance as a center of Pan-Africanism.
The campaign's core mission is to advocate for the removal of travel barriers between African nations, facilitating the free movement of people. The extensive itinerary includes stops in countries such as Cameroon, Angola, South Africa, Kenya, and Ethiopia, among many others. At each location, diplomatic engagements, cultural exchanges, and advocacy for visa-free policies are planned, with the objective of securing commitments from heads of government. The endeavor is supported by a coalition of public and private sector partners, including the Office of the Chief of Staff of Ghana, Afrimex Gold, and the National Investment Bank.
Beyond its political and economic objectives, the campaign celebrates Africa's shared heritage and traditions through performances and community engagements, emphasizing how visa liberalization can foster deeper cultural understanding. The initiative highlights the potential economic benefits of visa-free policies, such as increased tourism, enhanced skills exchange, and stimulated trade, contributing to economic growth and job creation across the continent.
