Italy and the European Union are preparing to hold a summit in Rome on June 20, 2025, aimed at strengthening partnerships with Africa to reduce forced migration and promote sustainable development.

The summit, co-chaired by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, focuses on aligning Italy's "Mattei Plan" and the EU's "Global Gateway" initiative.

Expected to attend are leaders from Angola, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, as well as representatives from the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and African Development Bank.

The role of Italy as a bridge between Europe and Africa is again highlighted against the backdrop of growing diplomatic activity. African diplomats, including Moroccan Ambassador Youssef Balla, emphasize the need for concrete actions, sustainable investments, and genuine cooperation, rather than superficial promises.

The "Mattei Plan" is viewed as a strategic platform for dialogue and a potential model for a future European-African partnership focused on sustainable development, climate change adaptation, and unlocking Africa's economic potential.
