Seville, Spain – June 30, 2025 – The Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4) opened in Seville and will run until July 3. The event brought together global leaders with the aim of developing solutions to overcome the financial challenges hindering the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In focus of the conference is the "Seville Compromise", a 38-page document that proposes a renewed global architecture for sustainable development financing. In particular, it contains initiatives to reduce the annual deficit of $4 trillion needed to achieve the SDGs by 2030. Among the proposals are debt restructuring mechanisms, tax reforms, and the search for new sources of international financing.
Notably, the United States refused to participate in the conference. There are over 70 heads of state and government, along with representatives from international financial institutions, development banks, philanthropic organizations, the private sector, and civil society attending the event.
