First EU-Moldova Summit: Launching a New Stage of Integration

Chisinau, July 4, 2025 - The first bilateral summit between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova took place today in Chisinau, marking a significant step in Moldova's European path.

Hosted by President Maia Sandu, the summit included top European leaders such as European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The leaders emphasized the strategic importance of Moldova's future within the EU and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the country's accession process.

A central focus of the discussions was the Growth Plan for Moldova, valued at 1.9 billion euros, recently adopted by the European Commission. The EU also allocated 197 million euros through the European Peace Facility to support the modernization of Moldova's armed forces between 2021 and 2025.

Discussions also covered strengthening cooperation in security and defense, particularly in the context of ongoing hybrid threats. The summit underscores the commitment of both the EU and Moldova to achieving full membership for Moldova within the European Union.
