Brussels, June 2025 - German Chancellor Friedrich Merz participated in a meeting of EU leaders at the European Union summit to discuss stricter migration policies.
The meeting, initiated by Italy, Denmark, and the Netherlands, involves a majority of EU member states. They aim to develop proposals for stricter migration rules, including establishing return centers for rejected asylum seekers in third countries.
The German government has also decided to tighten migration rules, restricting family reunification for certain refugees and halting expedited naturalization.
